SCENOGRAPHY
Sacre for one (2016)
Gavin Krastin often collaborates as scenographer for his long-time partner, choreographer and performer Alan Parker. In the performance Alan Parker revises and re-invents the infamous Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) as a popular dance solo, framing pop-culture social dances as the neo-primitive while embroiling himself in the gender politics of the original, problematizing his masculine presence as he fulfils all of the roles required in the ritual. Stemming from a disdain towards text and a failure of language, the scenography makes use of mounds of shredded paper documents and information as primary materials that can be temporarily designed, moulded and choreographed in space in multiple ways.
Sacre for one was performed at the National Arts Festival 2016 (Grahamstown, South Africa) and at the Cape Town Fringe Festival 2016 (Cape Town, South Africa).
Choreographed and performed by Alan Parker.
Scenography by Gavin Krastin.
