SCENOGRAPHY

Detritus for one (2015)

Gavin Krastin often collaborates as scenographer for his long-time partner, choreographer and performer Alan Parker. Can the ephemera archive ephemera? Alan Parker’s Detritus for one explores the potential of performance and the performer as archives of the affects and subjective experiences of other performance works. In the solo performance assemblage Parker weaves together four past dance works that left a profound impression on him and attempts to re-tell and re-perform his experiences of these performances. Drawing from Parker’s memory of these past performances, the scenography is distilled and stripped as it employs and abstracts visual signifiers and detritus that hark back to the original performances.

Detritus for one was performed at the National Arts Festival 2015 (Grahamstown, South Africa), the Cape Town Fringe Festival 2015 (Cape Town, South Africa) and at the Dance Umbrella 2017 (Johannesburg, South Africa).
